There’s another secret weapon to add to your beauty regimen. With high concentrations of tocopherols, amino acids, Vitamin K, essential fatty acids and antioxidants, Prickly Pear Seed Oil has been shown to moisturize and soften skin, restore elasticity, neutralize free radicals that cause signs of aging, brighten under eye circles and minimize spider veins. Yes, please!
This velvety smooth oil is extracted from tiny seeds in the fruit of the Prickly Pear Cactus. Known for its tolerance to extreme drought, it has been used by generations of Berber women to fend off the effects of dry desert conditions. Prickly Pear Seed Oil is easily absorbed and gentle enough for most skin types.
We asked Kahina Giving Beauty founder Katharine L’Heureux about the brand’s Moroccan sourced oil. The work of extracting Prickly Pear Seed Oil is labor intensive, requiring approximately four days to collect and dry the tiny seeds for one liter of oil, making it one of the most expensive beauty oils in the world. The pure cold-pressed oil is bottled at the source.
At what age is it recommended that people start using this anti-aging oil? “It's never too soon to start with a good skincare regimen that includes a heavy dose of antioxidants and essential fatty acids,” says Katharine. “Prickly Pear Seed Oil is extremely rich in both and is a simple and natural way to defend skin against free radicals that cause signs of aging before they appear.”
“It helps boost radiance, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, restore lost moisture, and boost elasticity,” Katharine continues. “The oil can be used night and/or day (depending on your skin’s moisture needs), on its own or layered under/blended with a lotion or cream. Right now, in this dry NYC winter weather, I'm loving it in the morning and at night,” she says. “In the morning, I massage it into my skin after spraying my face with the Kahina Toning Mist and before applying the Kahina Facial Lotion. In the evening, I'll replace the Facial Lotion with Night Cream. As the weather warms up, I'll switch to using the Argan Oil in the morning to balance sebum production.”
