This stunning and timeless face is the work of makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis. Created with the winter months in mind (but certainly capable of going beyond the season), pale neutrals and soft pinks come together as the perfect antidote to sharp winter sunlight. We asked Kirsten what inspired this look: “A little bit of Scandinavian minimalism. I also looked at old winter photos from my childhood, my older sister and her friends looking healthy, with a glow from the cold… mixed with my memory of Dr. Zhivago, Russian winter and Russian beauty.”
Here’s how you can achieve this beautifully understated look:
A subtle depth around the eyes is achieved by layering light browns and beige; pretty pinks and a touch of shimmery highlighter on the face and lips creates a refreshed, healthy radiance. Flawless skin and groomed brows are the foundation of simple, barely-there makeup. Even out skintone with foundation; fill in brows with a shadow similar to your brow color. (Shown here: Paper Thin Foundation on the face and Wisdom eye shadow on the brows.)
Dust light beige Cloud Nine eye shadow from the lash line to the brow bone. Sweep a light brown shadow, like Charmed, over the lid, from the outer corner of the eye inwards towards the nose. Repeat underneath the eyes. Define the crease of the eye with a our darker brown Magnetic shadow. Skipped the mascara here, but add if desired.
With a light touch, pat Embrace Cream Blush into the apples of the cheeks; add Radiance Highlighter along the cheekbones and bridge of the nose for a light-reflecting glow. Complete the look with a swipe of Blissfull pink Lip Tint.
We love this for daytime but Kirsten also gave us some tips on taking this look from day to evening: “I would add more color to the eyes, maybe do a light smoky eye with Wisdom and Divine. Both are beautiful “bluish/colder” tones that complement the Cream Blush in Embrace and the Highlighter in Radiance. I would also add mascara, but keep the rest as is.”
