Beauty Trends to Watch - Summer 2021 Edition
By celebrity makeup artist and clean beauty expert Katey Denno

Life is starting again and it’s showing across makeup trends. Brows, lips, cheeks... Katey Denno walks us through the big post-covid crazes we all want to jump on. Time to show off those beautiful features of yours that you have been hiding for the past 15 months!

Brows continue to be in, but not in the big, totally opaque stenciled-on, super over-drawn pre-covid way. Now it's more about filling in any bald spots, using a brow gel to thicken and help keep them in place, and really showing off the fluff (we’re not suggesting you throw trimming and plucking out the window, but maybe you don’t have to be all that groomed).

It’s no surprise that now that we don’t have to wear masks everywhere, lip color and glossiness are making a comeback. Truly, anything goes, but now more than ever really is the time to be experimental and put together your own personal lipstick wardrobe. I’m talking one neutral that looks good no matter what you’re wearing, one bright and bold shade that makes you feel awesome, and a gloss of some sort, even if you don't’ wear it full-glassy-gloss-force (you can tap your finger on top of your lip glossed lips to tone it down, and then pat that excess onto your cheeks for a little added glow. There are wonderful uber glosses to pick from, but also some light, balmie-gloss options, too.

Another post-mask wearing trend we’re seeing is pump up the volume on those gorgeous cheeks! Whether it’s a bold pop of peach, pink or  plum, or a reflective brown, copper, or champagne, cheeks are coming out and living large. Pair a bold cheek with a few coats of mascara and clear lip balm, or really dress up your face and pair with a fully saturated lip or eye.

4. The 'i'm basically still in my PJs, but going out again' makeup

For those who feel like pops of color just feel like too much right now, but still want the fun of buying new products and trying new looks, and appreciate the slight oomph that a little tone-on-tone makeup can offer, ‘nude’ lips, cheeks, and eyes that play with saturation levels and textures are where it’s at.
