Hi, I’m Destiny and I’m the Store Manager at Credo’s Upper East Side location in Manhattan. As a new mom, it’s super important for me to be using clean beauty products, both when I was pregnant, and definitely now when I'll be hugging and kissing my baby all day! Many people start their clean beauty journey when they’re pregnant or trying, so if that’s you, WELCOME. I’m so happy to be on this journey with you.
This can be both an exciting and overwhelming time. Between reading about pregnancy, setting up space for your new baby, going to the doctor and birthing classes – it can be enough to make your head spin. One of the exciting things, is that now is a very good excuse to invest in all new self-care products! But…where to even start? What's okay to use and what’s not? Keep in mind that, like with food, herbs or supplements, it is always good to consult with your doctor to see what would be right for you.
One big peace of mind during this time – Credo.
At Credo, we have the highest standards in beauty, banning over 2700+ ingredients that we don’t think should be going on people’s bodies (and not in or on babies’ bodies). Instead of giving you a laundry list of stuff you can’t use (like the lists of foods you’re encouraged not to eat), how about a list of some fun and cute products you might like to use on your maternity journey? Here are some of my favorite clean beauty products for trying-to-conceive, pregnant or breastfeeding moms.
BAKUCHIOL FOR HORMONAL SKIN IMBALANCE
A new and not-so-fun aspect of pregnancy are the hormone changes that you may be experiencing, and with those, your skin may change. You might find that your skin is more oily than usual and you may even get a bit of acne along with it. If this is the case, going with products that are more gentle for your skin would be best, rather than trying to zap your skin with harsh ingredients. One ingredient that may be new to you is Bakuchiol.

BYBI 1% Bakuchiol in Olive Squalane Oil Booster.
$17.00
Retinol is not advised during pregnancy, but there is this alternative that is known to be gentler. It doesn't have definitive safety data though, so, as always, check with your doctor. Bakuchiol has many of the same benefits as a retinol (which may help with acne, fine lines and wrinkles), but it doesn’t have the harsh side effects, such as photosensitivity, or sensitivity in general. Smoother, more even skin tone awaits!
TRY ENZYMES TO MAINTAIN YOUR GLOW
Another ingredient category that you might want to consider adding to your new skincare regimen during pregnancy is enzymes. Enzymes can gently exfoliate the skin by breaking down the keratin protein to remove the dead skin cells. This will help you to maintain that pregnancy glow, but also keep any excess oil in check.
One product that is chock full of enzymes is...
Beuti Pomegranate 3-in-1 Enzyme Cleanser.
$80.00
KEEP SKIN HYDRATED
Even if skin is more oily than usual, you want to make sure that you keep your skin hydrated so that way it stays balanced. You definitely don’t want to strip the skin. Look for a gentle, non-irritating moisturizer for skin that may continually change during pregnancy.
A great hydrator is...
Peet Rivko Daily Moisturizer.
$48.00
A moisturizer like this is gentle and plays well with other products that you may have in your routine. But don’t be fooled just because it’s gentle; it still provides your skin with the hydration and antioxidant protection that it needs.
MASSAGE IS A MUST
Last, but certainly not least, is the many changes the body goes through, growing to accommodate the new baby and prepare for birth and breastfeeding. However, for many of us that means stretch marks. The main thing to keep in mind with stretch marks is to HYDRATE and MOISTURIZE. The stomach, chest, arms, hips and thighs all change, so why not reward them with a well-earned massage? Take time to give your body some love every day with nourishing ingredients like Squalane, which gently mimics your skin’s lipid barrier.
You can find Squalane in...
Pipette Calming Body Lotion.
$10.00
This moisturizing lotion gives you a lot of bang for buck and is packed with Squalane to keep your skin hydrated. Plus this product is not just for mom, it’s for baby as well.
