MUN’s inaugural offering, No.1 Aknari Brightening Youth Serum, gets a lot of attention for being among the first skin care products to utilize the powerful benefits of prickly pear seed oil, but lately our No.11 Anarose Rejuvenating Rose Toner has been receiving quite a bit of love as well. However, for all of the glowing (pun intended) reviews it receives, we’ve noticed that they’re often prefaced with the fact that while the reviewer usually doesn’t like toners or sees the need for them, this one is an exception. It turns out a lot of people are in fact skipping toner altogether. We consider toner a crucial step and explained why in a previous post, but now you can read all about what makes ours so unique!
What sets MUN’s No.11 Anarose Toner apart:
If you’re familiar with MUN, you know that our philosophy is integral to every part of our process, that we’re known for our expertly formulated products, and that we only source the highest quality, organic ingredients. Our rose water based toner contains antioxidants and anti-aging properties for soft and supple skin. It gently removes dead skin cells to help the skin treatments that follow absorb better, therefore enhancing their performance. Its pH is 4.5 so it effectively balances your skin’s acidity while softening and moisturizing. The rose scent has also been known to have transportive effects.
Key ingredients and their benefits:
Rose Hydrosol (Rose Water) - while some producers dilute their hydrosols, ours is derived naturally and is therefore stronger in concentration. It’s also gret for all skin types and concerns ranging from acne to rosacea to mature skin. Not to mention, we’re obsessed with the heavenly scent!
Prickly Pear Stem Extract (Opuntia Ficus-Indica) - arguably, our claim to fame, its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects are starting to gain momentum in the green beauty community at large. What it does: soothes and provides long lasting hydration. How it does it: it contains essential amino acids, flavones, vitamins and antioxidants.
Goji Berry Extract (Lycium Barbarum) - the smoothie bowl fanatics out there are probably already well aware of their nutritional value, but by reducing UV and free radical damage, yielding long term anti-aging benefits and instantly firming, it’s just as good for your skin.
Hyaluronic Acid - signs of aging beware! This powerful moisture-retaining ingredient is derived from plants for skin care purposes, but also occurs naturally in the human body where it acts as its own water magnet to help maintain extracellular fluidity. More moisture means smoother, younger looking skin. Period.
Willow Bark Extract - known to some as nature’s exfoliant, this substitute for harsh synthetic Salicylic acid, removes dead skin cells and helps fight acne without the potentially harmful effects of its artificial counterpart. Its exfoliating properties help prepare the skin for applying moisturizer immediately after toner.
Pale Rose (Rosa centifolia), Jasmine (Jasminum officinale) and Daisy (Bellis perennis) - who doesn’t love flowers?! It turns out these florals are clinically proven to act together to recreate the soft and velvety sensation of petals on the skin itself. We’ll take it.
How to use it:
Most people use a cotton pad, though we’ve heard of people pouring it into their hands and applying it directly to the face. We now ship No.11 Anarose with both an open pour top and a spray nozzle so you can choose what suits you best. A few beauty bloggers have even mentioned spraying it on over makeup to set it and throughout the day for a little pick me up. There’s really no wrong way - just make sure not to skip it!
Tips from MUN’s Founder, Munemi Imai:
“I came from Japan, a big toner culture. A lot of people in Japan will invest in a good toner rather than creams. The right toner can give the skin a healthy glow and fresh feeling after cleansing and throughout the day. It gives the skin the foundation for a deeper penetration of your serum or moisturizer. It works best when applied with a cotton pad, so if there is any trace of residue after cleansing, it will remove it. I start prepping models and clients’ skin with a toner on clean skin every time to make a good canvas to work on.”
