Radical Fragrance Transparency. This means the fragrance ingredients are fully disclosed to you (not hidden behind the word "fragrance", which is the norm). Here’s what’s in it.

This fragrance is comprised of (Click on a fragrance category for more info):

Essential Oils

x

Essential Oils

Authentic essential oils are physically extracted by steam or expression (cold pressing) of the skin of the fruit. Essential oils have not been chemically altered (via reaction, solvent extraction) from their natural state.

Certified Organic Fragrance

x

Certified Organic Fragrance

A blend of essential oils (see above) derived from plants that are grown in accordance with the USDA National Organic Program.

Natural Fragrance

x

Natural Fragrance

Natural fragrances are mixtures of aromatic raw materials. As opposed to a whole essential oil found in a plant, these chemicals are physically isolated from natural compounds, then blended together to create a scent. If only natural isolates are used, companies can declare the scent “natural.”

Naturally-Derived Fragrance

x

Naturally-Derived Fragrance

Fragrance ingredients that have been extracted using solvents (alcohol, petrochemicals, vegetable oils), or extracted by fermentation, or ingredients which may have a natural component but have been significantly processed.

Synthetic Fragrance

x

Unfragranced/Unscented

Ingredients which are new molecules, made in a laboratory. The majority of synthetic constituent ingredients are from petroleum byproducts. Synthetic “nature-identical” ingredients fall into this category as well. Credo allows synthetic fragrances as long as there are no Dirty List components.

What's Behind "Fragrance"?

US law does not require that companies be transparent about the ingredients in fragrance/parfum. Credo believes in your right-to-know. We require all brands to categorize the fragrance in each product (see chart above), and encourage brands to fully disclose all scent ingredients.

All products are cruelty-free and formulated without ingredients on The Dirty List™️. At Credo, "clean" goes even deeper. Learn more.

About the brand

The PHLUR co-founders Eric Korman (CEO), formerly an executive at Ralph Lauren, and Cynthia Korman, an established art director, became fascinated with fragrance...and not just as a product, but as an industry. Why had so little changed over the years? On the one hand, there was a flux of poorly produced licensed products flaunting a celebrity or fashion designer's name and on the other hand, there were incredible boutique fragrances that the average person could never afford or even find. And on both sides, this was obviously becoming an industry overly dependent on sex to sell itself. These co-founders set out to create a clean middle path...luxuriously-made fine fragrance, sold at an honest price and marketed without all the misogynistic imagery. In 2015 the pair did just that, PHLUR was launched and the rest was sweet-smelling fragrance history.
