Key ingredients

STREPTOCOCCUS THERMOPHILUS—A symbiotic microbe containing high levels of sphingomyelinase (ASMase), an enzyme. Topicals containing this probiotic can generate a significant increase in skin ceramide amounts via the ASMase/ceramide pathway. Biosynthesis of ceramides, which comprise 50% of the skin’s barrier layer, declines with age.

POLYGLYCERYL POLYRICINOLEATE—A novel food-based surfactant and emulsifier. Directly improves barrier function by multi-tasking with probiotics to provide microbial balance. In addition, the polyglycerol part of the molecule provides emollience to lubricate the skin and improve overall texture and appearance.

CALENDULA INFUSED SAFFLOWER OIL—Locally harvested from Marie Veronique Nadeau’s farm in Northern California this herbaceous plant oil is long known for its soothing properties.

What is an undertone?

An undertone is the color beneath the surface of your skin, which never changes (even with a tan). There are three types of undertones:

Pink/Cool

I see red or pink undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin burns easily, but barely tans.
My skin looks better in silver jewelry than gold.

Neutral

I see both pink and yellow undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin sometimes burns and sometimes tans.
My skin looks good in both gold and silver jewelry.

Yellow/Warm

I see yellow or golden undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin rarely burns, but tans easily.
My skin looks better in gold jewelry than silver.

Usage

Dispense a quarter-sized amount into palms.
Spread evenly over clean, damp skin, adding product as needed.
May repeat as needed throughout the day especially to the areas of the body experiencing dryness, tightness, visible scars, crepiness and redness.
If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
Keep in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
Use within 6 months of opening.

Pro-tip

While the skin is still damp post-shower, apply a thin layer all over the body, working the emulsion from the extremities inward toward the heart to boost lymph flow, an excellent medium for body gua sha. Effective and supportive for bumpy skin, rough skin, or keratosis pilaris.

Greasy and Not Hydrating

"I loathe this product and I am so mad at myself for even buying it. I knew it was a serum/lotion to oil product from the description however it's very greasy and it does not hydrate at all. It makes the skin glisten but no hydration. Last night I did a test using this on one leg and then the other Dr. Sturm body lotion and the Sturm side actually felt hydrated and was soft. The leg with the Body Barrier was greasy and felt tight. I had just hiked/ran earlier in 108* desert and this did nothing. I actually washed my leg off to test another lotion and it felt much better."
