Emmy-nominated hair designer Sarah Hindsgaul has spent 20+ on TV and film sets, including the hit show Stranger Things, before turning that expertise into her eponymous brand, Hindsgaul Hair.
If you've watched Stranger Things then you've seen Sarah's work. Two decades in film and TV meant testing nearly every product on the market and learning firsthand what held up to the pressure of a live set. What she found was a gap: nothing clean enough, strong enough, and lightweight enough all at once. Paired with her Scandinavian upbringing, that gap became the blueprint for Credo Beauty's latest cult favorite haircare brand.
We sat down with Sarah to get into it all.
How did your years in film and TV shape Hindsgaul?
After 20 years on film and television sets, I saw the same problem over and over again. The products that gave us long-lasting hold often left the hair dry, while many clean formulas relied on heavy oils and butters that weighed fine hair down.
I wanted another option. Hindsgaul was created to begin with a clean, healthy scalp and build from there with weightless formulas that leave hair nourished, touchable, flexible, and full of movement. My goal was to create professional performance without compromising the long-term health of the hair, because to me, beautiful hair always starts at the scalp.
What is the root of Hindsgaul Hair's approach?
I don't believe great hair comes from a complicated routine. I believe it comes from using the right products for your hair type. My Scandinavian upbringing taught me that fewer, better products create better results, so every Hindsgaul product has a clear purpose.
I also wanted the ingredients to reflect where I come from. That's why we thoughtfully selected Nordic ingredients, including cloudberry and Scandinavian cotton, and combined them with modern performance ingredients to create formulas that support healthy-looking, weightless hair. The collection is designed to create a clean foundation first and then support the hair without weighing it down. I wanted a routine that feels simple, luxurious, and easy to live with every day.
Why was meeting The Credo Standard® important?
Aligning with the Credo Standard® was important to me because I wanted every Hindsgaul product to be something people could trust from the very beginning. I've seen how much healthier hair becomes when it's cared for with thoughtfully formulated products. We invest so much in skincare, yet our scalp is skin too.
As a mother of four, I hope the next generation never has to compromise what goes onto their hair and scalp. They should simply choose the products that work best for them. I've trusted Credo for years as my destination for clean beauty, so becoming part of Credo feels like a natural fit because we share the same values.
Which three products would you travel with?
I would pack the Salt Scalp Scrub Shampoo because it gives me the clean, healthy foundation every great hairstyle needs. My second choice would be the Weightless Hair Mask, which cares for my long hair without ever making it feel heavy, no matter the climate. Finally, I'd bring The Mousse because it's incredibly versatile. I can create a polished blowout or let my hair air-dry into soft, natural texture. Those three products perfectly represent my philosophy: a healthy scalp, weightless care, and effortless styling.
