Clean perfumes can be either natural or synthetic. At Credo Beauty, we do accept synthetic fragrances as they sometimes have a lower environmental impact and strong safety profiles. However, we cater to customers who prefer natural scents by requiring clear labeling of fragrance types. We also encourage brands to fully disclose all fragrance ingredients, allowing our customers to make well-informed choices. This is an effort that is part of our Fragrance Transparency Policy.

At Credo Beauty, our perfumes are free from phthalates, nitromusks, and polycyclic musks (as clarified in our Dirty List prohibiting and limiting 2700+ potentially harmful ingredients). Traditional fragrances may include these compounds, even though they are associated with possible adverse health and environmental effects.

Floral scent is incorporated into clean perfume using sustainable and environmentally friendly methods, such as steam distillation and cold-pressing. Steam distillation is a gentle process that uses steam to extract essential oils directly from flower petals, and cold-pressing involves the use of pressure to extract oils from citrus rinds. You’ll find a variety of flower scents are used when creating flower perfume, but classic jasmine, lavender, and rose perfume scents are among the most common.

There is a common misconception that clean floral scents do not have as good longevity as regular perfumes. In fact, clean floral perfumes contain certain ingredients and use innovative techniques to increase their longevity and staying power. Clean brands use encapsulation technology, which encases fragrance molecules in a microscopic shell and releases them slowly over time, and natural fixatives, which help anchor lighter floral notes and extend their wear time, to extend the overall longevity of their clean perfumes.

Clean perfumes often contain hypoallergenic and non-irritating ingredients, such as essential oils and plant extracts, which make them suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. These clean ingredients make clean perfume a safer, gentler alternative for those with sensitive skin and will reduce the likelihood of irritation or allergies from occurring. However, sensitivities can vary, so it’s still recommended to carry out a patch test first.
