What is an undertone?

An undertone is the color beneath the surface of your skin, which never changes (even with a tan). There are three types of undertones:

Pink/Cool

I see red or pink undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin burns easily, but barely tans.
My skin looks better in silver jewelry than gold.

Neutral

I see both pink and yellow undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin sometimes burns and sometimes tans.
My skin looks good in both gold and silver jewelry.

Yellow/Warm

I see yellow or golden undertones around the perimeter of my face and neck.
My skin rarely burns, but tans easily.
My skin looks better in gold jewelry than silver.

a little goes a long way

"I love this foundation so much. A little goes a very long way (I use less than one pump and it covers my whole face). It does a fantastic job of covering my redness and it looks natural. My only complaint is that I don't like the pump. It's on the larger side so it's harder to fit in my tiny makeup bag. Also, it has stopped working on me and I found a video tutorial about how to insert a paper clip on a spot at the bottom to push it up. That fixed it."

"Really great coverage with a tiny bit of product. The rep at the store showed me how applying it on very moisturized skin makes a big difference. Ends up drying down to a real skin-like finish when I make sure I use it immediately after applying a hydrating moisturizer. Gonna try one shade darker for the rest of the summer. I have a neutral undertone and dark skin (Laura Harrier toned for reference w/ #55)"

"Very easy to cover up dark spots and discoloration, gives great coverage. I bought this to mix with a darker color and compared to the photos online, this has more of an olive tone. It's still very light but visibly olive/green. Pretty thick product so I mix with face oil (in the winter) for better application. Love that it has a refill option."
