How is clean makeup different from natural and organic makeup?
Organic makeup only contains organically grown natural ingredients, and natural makeup prioritizes ingredients found in nature. This can differ from clean makeup in different ways, as companies define “clean” in various ways. This is because there is currently no legal definition for what is “clean” in the beauty industry. At Credo, we aim to lead the clean movement by only stocking products that are free from over 2,700 ingredients that have been shown to have a negative effect on the environment or human health. But we don’t just stop there - we also set a high bar for packaging, sustainability, and safety testing while pushing for greater ingredient transparency in the whole industry. -
Is clean makeup better than regular makeup?
Clean makeup products are made from clean ingredients that are safer for your skin and have a wide range of benefits. At Credo Beauty, our rigorous standards and vetting process ensure that the clean products we offer are not only effective, but also safer and more eco-friendly. Each product adheres to our strict clean standard, meaning they do not contain ingredients associated with negative health or environmental impacts. We also impose sustainability and packaging criteria on our brands to help reduce the ecological impact of consumer products. -
What are the benefits of using clean makeup?
Using clean beauty products from Credo Beauty has a wide range of benefits for your skin’s health. It protects both your skin and the environment, as the products we offer are safer and more sustainable than traditional alternatives. -
Are clean makeup products cruelty-free?
Being a clean makeup brand or product does not necessarily mean it’s cruelty-free, as some clean brands that use safer, clean ingredients will sometimes still test on animals. That’s why we’ve put in place strict guidelines for the products and brands we offer. They all adhere to cruelty-free practices and create cruelty-free makeup products using clean ingredients that are not tested on animals. We also prohibit or restrict many animal-derived ingredients in favor of vegan alternatives. -
How do I know if a makeup product is clean?
The world of clean beauty is a difficult one to navigate, but we’re here to help you. Being the largest clean beauty retailer in the US, we go above and beyond to make sure the products you use are of strictest “clean” standards. All of the products we offer are vetted to ensure they fit our industry-leading Credo Clean Standard™, which bans over 2,700 ingredients that may have a negative impact on your health or the environment. We also consider sustainability efforts and push for a higher level of transparency via policies such as our radical Fragrance Transparency Policy. -
What are the best clean makeup brands?
We work with a multitude of clean makeup brands and are working together to change the beauty industry by making cleaner, more sustainable makeup products. You can rest assured that we only stock the very best of the clean industry, featuring only brands and products that adhere to our strict standards. Some of the most reputable clean makeup brands we work with include ILIA, Westman Atelier, RMS Beauty, and more. -
Is clean makeup better for sensitive skin?
Many clean products are designed to be safer, gentler, and less irritating for sensitive skin. They contain fewer synthetic chemicals and ingredients, prioritizing clean ingredients that are known for their nourishing abilities and multitude of skin health benefits instead. While sensitivities to ingredients can vary, our push for greater transparency can allow you to find the perfect products that are gentle on your skin. -
Are there clean makeup options for different skin tones?
We offer a wide range of tones for products such as foundation, complexion sticks, concealer, tinted moisturizers. As we strive to offer the most diverse selection of clean products possible, we continuously push to bring you more options that cater to a broad range of skin tones, hair textures, and consumer needs. -
Are any makeup brands EWG certified?
Some are, but not all. EWG (Environmental Working Group) certification is one way brands can show ingredient safety, but it’s not the only standard out there. At Credo Beauty, every product goes through our own Credo Clean Standard™, which sets strict guidelines around ingredient safety, sourcing, and sustainability. That means whether or not a brand is EWG certified, you can feel confident that anything you find here has been vetted with the highest level of care. -
Is clean makeup suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes - many people with sensitive skin actually prefer using our range of clean makeup because it avoids ingredients known to cause irritation (like certain synthetic fragrances, parabens, or harsh preservatives). That said, “sensitive” means something different for everyone. If you’ve ever reacted to a product, we always suggest patch testing first. And if you want extra peace of mind, look for fragrance-free options in our makeup collection. -
Is clean makeup vegan or cruelty-free?
“Clean,” “vegan,” and “cruelty-free” are all different things. Clean refers to ingredient safety and transparency, although there isn’t a legal standard for what makes makeup “clean”, so it can be a bit of a minefield. Vegan means no animal-derived ingredients (like beeswax or carmine). Cruelty-free means the product hasn’t been tested on animals. At Credo Beauty, every product is cruelty-free, full stop. Many are also vegan, and we clearly label them so you can shop according to your values. Plus, we offer truly “clean” products, as they’re vetted in line with our strict Credo Clean Standard™, which bans or restricts over 2,700 potentially harmful ingredients. -
Are all natural makeup brands considered clean?
Not necessarily. “Natural” simply means the product contains ingredients that come from plants or minerals. “Clean” doesn’t have a legal definition, meaning each brand has their own interpretation of this. That’s why we created the Credo Clean Standard™ - to set a higher bar that looks at the full picture: safety, sourcing, ethics, and environmental impact.
