Sasha Plavsic founded ILIA after her mother—a pioneer of health and wellness—encouraged her to read the ingredients on the label of her favorite lip balm. She was shocked to discover that many of the ingredients weren’t safe. Sasha set out to recreate her favorite lip balm with clean, skin-centric ingredients, and the idea for ILIA was born.

Today, ILIA challenges the conventions of clean beauty to create safe, potent formulas that protect and revive your skin. It all comes back to vivid washes of color, active levels of skincare ingredients, and a fuss-free approach to makeup that always puts your skin first.

ILIA is committing 1% of Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 sales to environmental causes—starting with reforestation. Their goal is to plant 1 million trees by the end of 2023 in partnership with One Tree Planted.

    At Credo Beauty, our philosophy of clean beauty means we impose strict cruelty-free and animal welfare requirements on all the brands we work with. This means that, yes, ILIA products are cruelty-free. In addition, almost all of their products are also vegan, except for a few products that contain beeswax. If you prefer vegan products, you can use our search filters to make sure you are only browsing vegan products from ILIA.
  • Do ILIA products contain any harmful ingredients?
    All of ILIA's products, as for all of the products we carry, adhere to The Credo Clean Standard™, meaning they don't contain any of the 2700+ ingredients that are potentially harmful to human health or the planet. Some of these ingredients include parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and other ingredients commonly found in traditional skin care and makeup products.
  • Are ILIA products suitable for sensitive skin?
    Yes, ILIA skin care and makeup products are suitable for sensitive skin. They ensure that their products are non-comedogenic and formulated without fragrance, gluten, or silicone. This makes their products gentle and suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin. Plus, with skin-soothing ingredients like aloe vera and allantoin, ILIA cosmetics help to calm and nourish the skin while providing beautiful color and coverage.
  • How effective are ILIA Beauty products compared to conventional makeup?
    ILIA makeup and skin care products are just as results-driven and effective as conventional makeup. Plus, as they are free from any ingredients on our Dirty List, you can be assured that you're using products that are looking after your skin's long-term health. Conventional makeup often contains many of the ingredients we ban (including sulfates, parabens, and other harsh chemicals, allergens, and irritants) that can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause long-term damage.

    ILIA Beauty complies with the strict sustainability and packaging requirements we impose on all the brands we work with. They use recycled, sustainable packaging materials and actively work to minimize their carbon footprint through more eco-friendly manufacturing practices.
